As the Trulli team confirmed its exit from Formula E today – Jaguar officially announced its future participation in the 2016/17 season of the series.
The move by the British based marque coincides with its announcement last week that it was to produce a range of new electric vehicles and marks the company’s first involvement in single seater competition since it pulled out of Formula 1 in 2004.
Jaguar’s entry comes as Formula E was forced to announce the departure of the Trulli team, owned by former F1 driver, Jarno Trulli, after a difficult start to the season – only running a handful of laps during pre-season testing and failing scrutineering at both the Beijing and Putrajaya e-Prix. Jaguar has inherited the entry of the Italian team, but will receive four new Dallara chassis to aid its preparation for next season and will be developing its own powertrain.
