Winter Is Finally Here

Well there we have it, the motorsport season has finally finished once again for another year. Pretty much all motor racing ceases with on track action over the winter; Formula E does still continue, but in the southern hemipshere sun; (Lucky guys..) But I'm sure like me, you'll be getting restless over the coming weekends with the lack of action on circuit.
But despite the lack of burning rubber there is lots to be done over the winter by teams all around the world. Building begins on the cars that will bring us lots more action in 2016, hiring and reshuffling staff as well as securing new sponsorship deals to keep themselves going.
Using the world of Formula One as an example, designs for the 2016 cars would have begun back in the summer in preperation to go into the build process about a month ago. Red Bull with their power unit saga were really pushing time limits because the power unit design is integeral to the design of the car, so without knowing who was supplying them for so long must surely have hampered their design; even if it's only a small amount.
Ferrari said earlier in the season that would already be redesigning the chassis and power unit because they feel there is a lot more to gain. Their 2015 form showed they did make a huge step forward and if all goes to plan at Maranello, they could be snapping very closely at Mercedes heels going into next season.
Drivers will be taking some well earned time off to spend with their families over the festive period, but no sooner will they have had their holiday meals; they will be hard at their training regimes to come back ever more focused to come back better and stronger.
With a short winter break due to the extended seasons we've had in Formula One in recent years, the teams don't have very long to prepare for the first test in Barcelona on February 22nd. With only eight days of testing over two testing sessions prior to heading down under to Melbourne for the season opener just one month later on March 20th.
Because of limited in season development allowed from the power unit manufacturers, it'll be super important; especially from Honda that the units are reliable from the start; McLaren-Honda can ill-afford another season like 2015.
It may seem like an eternity, but it really isn't long until you can wake up on a sunday morning and prepare yourself for some motor racing action!
Stay Tuned!
