Toro Rosso confirm Ferrari power for 2016

Toro Rosso will be reigniting their previous partnership with Ferrari to supply them with 2015-spec engines from next year. The Italian manufacturer supplied the team from 2007-13.

It is understood that a deal was done prior to last weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but a number of things had to be settled before the agreement could be made official. Firstly, the FIA had to give special dispensation for Ferrari to supply year-old specification engines. The regulations for next year say a manufacturer must supply each customer team with identical hardware, except in cases where the FIA grant permission which, for Ferrari, was given on Wednesday.

Settling with Renault was another reason for the delayed announcement, as it was with Red Bull revealing their engine source for 2016. Renault confirmed last night that they will be returning to Formula One as a works team, allowing the two Red Bull teams to finalise their plans.
