Pirelli clarify new tyre regulations

Teams will be given more choice over tyre compounds for Grand Prix in 2016, as Pirelli will have three compounds available for each race weekend: two mandatory compounds, and one compound the teams can choose themselves.
The number of sets available over a weekend remains the same – 13. Pirelli will nominate two mandatory sets for each car to be used in the race, one of which must be used during the race, and a set of the softest tyres will be reserved for Q3, with the remaining 10 for each team to decide.
Teams will select the compounds they want within a deadline set by Pirelli (if the deadline is not met, the FIA will choose for them), and the choices will be kept secret until two weeks before the race. Interestingly, the choices are made per car, so drivers within the same team can opt for different compounds.
During the weekend, teams will have to give a set of tyres back to Pirelli 40 minutes into FP1 and then again at the end of FP1, and two sets at the end of FP2 and FP3.
