The Circuit of Wales project received a big boost today when the Welsh government granted their approval to deregister common land in the Rassau area of the Ebbw Vale.
The government and circuit backers have offered the Circuit of Wales 800 acres of land upon which to build the 3.5-mile circuit, as well as a hotel and commercial park. The project is predicted to generate 6000 full-time jobs and play host to 750,000 visitors every year.
The total cost of the project is £325 million, with that money coming from private investors and the government. CoW has a deal to host MotoGP up to 2024, with the aim to have the British Grand Prix staged there from 2017.
The Chief Executive of the project, Michael Carrick, stated to BBC News that, “The Circuit of Wales has the ability to generate thousands of employment opportunities, attract greater long-term investment and deliver regeneration into Blaenau Gwent and South Wales.”
The project was put on hold earlier this year as a result of an environmental enquiry, with the preliminary go-ahead given at this year's British Grand Prix subject to agreements being made with the commoners and their land.
The British Grand Prix will continue at the Silverstone Circuit next year, the event being funded once again by the Circuit of Wales.
