Nico Rosberg Tops An Eventful Free Practice Two

Heading into the second practice session of the day was always going to be a tricky affair after some light rain fell between sessions. light drizzle was falling at the start of FP2, but it wasn't enough to bother the drivers.

Lots of running on the prime tyre was the order of the session, but it was proving to be very tricky with lots of locking up from many, especially into turn one and the final corner Juncao.

The first notable incident of the session was that Fernando Alonso's McLaren-Honda decided to let go at the half hour mark of the session with plenty of smoke pouring from the car; a red flag was called to get the car off the circuit.

Within ten minutes Alonso's car was cleared at the session was resumed. With the threat of rain hanging in the air, all the teams decided to get some quick laps in on the option tyre in preperation for qualifying.

At the halfway mark of the session young Max Verstappen spun the car at the exit of turn six, it looks like the Toro Rosso is suffering rear traction issues. This could pose issues in the race as traction is a key factor around Interlagos.

Jenson Button was asked if he wanted to extend the stint length he was on and he called back to say "No way, these tyres are finished", this could be a three stop race for the McLarens, but there isn't much of a difference between a two or three stop around this circuit,

Nico Rosberg was having a eventful second half of the session, he was complaining of a gearbox issue between second and third - but after a run through the pits to do a practice start there did not seem to be any issues on the car.

To add further pain to his day Rosberg had a heavy lockup into turn ten and flat spotted his right front quite heavily and then ran off the road at the final turn Juncao after locking up again, lucky for him it was towards the end of the session and the stint was nearly up, but that could be valuable information the team need for the race on Sunday.

Towards the end of the session everyone was doing race stints on the prime tyre to gather tyre life for the race. The fine drizzle on circuit was providing tricky conditions for the drivers to get that information with plenty of drivers struggling for traction out there.

That's it for the running on Friday, but there is plenty more to look forward to with FP3 and qualifying tomorrow.
