Rossi and Marquez Exchange Views On Valencia Accusations

Valentino Rossi looked surprisingly chirpy following his defeat to a tenth crown after Sunday's 30-lap Valencia Grand Prix. From the outside the Doctor looked content, but it didn't take long for things to descend.

Rossi's post-race press conference saw him slam Marc Marquez for, what he believed, aiding rival and eventual World Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

“I think that the situation was already bad”, stated Rossi. “But today was embarrassing for everybody because it was unbelievable, the behaviour of Marquez is something very bad for everything, especially the sport. It is something that nobody expects, because a Honda rider that made a Yamaha rider win and give the maximum just to push out his team-mate is something that nobody expect and I think it is very, very bad news. Anyway, it is like this, we have to accept.

“I am happy because now everybody see what I said in Australia and I don't understand the behaviour of Marquez but sincerely for me it is very difficult to say something to him because I hope that he will understand what he did in these last three races in the future of his career.

“For sure the Hondas were faster. We know that in the second part of the race Honda have a better potential but Marquez just protect Lorenzo like he did in Phillip Island and also Sepang. At the end I think that also Lorenzo have not to be very happy, as it is not a Championship that was won on track. But anyway (it) is memories.”

Marquez responded to these comments, swearing he rode his own race and did not deliberately protect Lorenzo.

“Of course I respect all the opinions, and I accept that when I win and when I lose, but with my mentality, when people saw that you didn't try to win the race, you just tried to disrupt someone else, I fell insulted”, the Spaniard said.

“Always when I go out on track I gave my 100 per cent. In practice I gave 100 per cent. In the race I gave 100 per cent. And I always did and I will always do it like this.

“For me and Dani the race was a big pressure. We knew that this result could happen and if it happened everybody would say 'blah, blah, blah, blah, blah'. And that happened. Of course I do not agree."
