The engineering sector of the Andretti squad, Andretti Technologies (ATEC), have announced a new partnership with Purdue University in Indiana, USA. The partnership is to further their development of electric vehicle technology.

Using the university’s facilities, Andretti will focus on high performance engineering in the world of electric vehicles, with a primary goal of creating a new powertrain for the Andretti Formula E team for the 2016/17 season. The world outside of motorsport is also on the agenda, with electric transport also being considered.

The partnership also includes an internship programme for the students of Purdue University with Andretti Technologies and Andretti’s various race teams.

“We here at Andretti Technologies are very excited to be partnered with such a prestigious and respected university, leaders in the field of electrical machines and power electronics,” said Roger Griffiths, Director of Motorsport Development for Andretti Technologies.

“The knowledge and resources offered to us has already been extremely fruitful in the development of the new ATEC Formula E powertrain that will debut in Season 3 of the FIA Formula E Championship.”

Steve Abel, Purdue’s associate vice president for engagement, said: “We at Purdue couldn’t be more pleased about this partnership between a high-tech leader in motorsports and our high-tech university.

“The Andretti organisation has a storied history in motorsports that will provide a framework for opportunities in the areas of research and development as well as internships that will benefit the students and faculty at Purdue, along with our colleagues within Andretti Technologies.

“Specific collaborations are underway with the College of Engineering and Krannert School of Management.”
