Formula E: Longer ePrix for Season Two

Race events during the 2015/16 Formula E season will be made slightly longer putting a greater emphasis on power management it has been revealed by Autosport.

Last season the first round of the all-electric championship run to 25 laps which will be increased to 26 laps this season. With an increase in usable race energy for this season, power management and powertrain efficiency will be key to success this season.

Andretti team manager Roger Griffiths believes that it’ll be harder for the teams to perfect their strategy in season two.

“It will influence how the races are going to be run because they will be pushing us harder to get to the end. We have a higher output but the same amount of energy so it’s going to be a challenge,” Said Griffiths to Autosport.

The maximum usable power available to the teams during race conditions has been increased from 150kw to 170kw by battery suppliers Williams Advanced Engineering.

“Yes you’ll want to make use of that 170kw but you’ll have to be careful otherwise you’ll run out of energy,” explained Griffiths. “There’ll be a great emphasis on energy management. Extending the races makes the challenge even harder.”

Inside Line Media understands that a new series battery could be introduced by season three with battery technology development opened up to the teams in season five.
