Kvyat: We should have pitted under safety car

Daniil Kvyat crossed the line 6th in front of his home crowd, but is classified 5th after Kimi Raikkonen's time penalty. Despite a strong points finish, he questions the strategy Red Bull chose when the safety car was deployed.

The Russian stayed out whereas team mate Daniel Ricciardo pitted for soft tyres. He was running in a stronger position, trying to defend against Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen in 4th, up until he retired with a suspected suspension failure.

“I think we slightly missed an opportunity with the strategy behind the safety car. I don’t know why they didn’t decide to pit, but I think in the end we still squeezed everything out of the strategy which we chose and although there were a few retirements I think our pace in the end looked quite good.

“A few things to analyse, few things to learn from this race like always, it’s a consistent process and I’m pleased with the points, definitely.”
