Porsche Not To Be Knocked Back In The Second Hour

Audi #7 still leads the race as the second hour comes to a close, even if they lost the lead to Porsche #18 whilst the pit stops were completed. However, it has taken Porsche only sixty minutes to close the lead gap, that was 14 seconds at the end of the first hour, down to just six seconds splitting the top three. None of the hybrid cars took on new tyres for the second stints, and only the #1 Toyota changed drivers, with Davidson taking the wheel. With such quick pit stops it was unknown whether or not Dumas could make a challenge, stealing the lead from the pits, but it wasn’t to be. The lead was slashed and continuously reduced as Dumas set on the charge, with Webber not letting go of the chance to convert his pole from yesterday into a third-consecutive race win.

Nick Tandy in the #47 got into a habit of going wide out of turn one every forth lap, abolishing all the catching up he had achieved on car #43 for P2 in class. But finally, towards the rear of the hour, it was the Strakka Racing car that made the mistake, going wide and letting Tandy up into P2. The #36 Signatech Alpine car has lead the class from around the start of racing in the two hours and thus far have been unchallenged. Disaster for the two G-Drive cars, who started P1/2 in class, with #26 down in P4, not looking to be improving fast and #28 out of contention due to the stop/go penalty in the beginning of the race.

LMGTE Pro is now lead by Porsche #91 who managed to get ahead of constant-leader #71 in the pit stops. The second AF Corse #51 holds onto P2, splitting the two Porsches as #71 was demoted to P4 after the pits. The Dempsey Porsche #77 was up in P3 for a lot of the second hour in the AM class, but after handing the pit stop owed dropped off of the podium positions. #96 Aston Martin still leads the class from #83 AF Corse and class championship leader’s #72 SMP Racing. However, #72 has been reported to the stewards for speeding in the pit lane so the size of the penalty will determine how much of an affect will be on the Ferrari team.

Hour three is expected to show some fantastic fights in LMP1 as Mark Webber closes ever quickly on the two front running cars.
