Newly crowned Moto2 World Champion Johann Zarco celebrated in style by setting the fastest time of Friday free practice.

After earlier receiving news of Rabat’s withdrawal from the event, Zarco was confirmed as the 2015 Moto2 champion and continued his excellent form of the season by being fastest on Friday practice for the Japanese Grand Prix with a 1m51.158s lap ahead of Alex Rins and Thomas Luthi. Zarco was just 0.039 quicker than Alex Rins who suffered a late crash at turn 10. Luthi was a further tenth of a second adrift after setting the pace in first practice.

Sam Lowes was fourth just in front of Luis Salom and home favourite Takaaki Nakagami. The Japanese rider was one of a number of riders to fall at turn 10 throughout the two Friday sessions. Folger was seventh ahead of Cortese, Pons and Syahrin in a top ten covered by one second. Dominique Aegerter is another rider not taking part this weekend due to injuries sustained at the last round at Aragon and his substitute Josh Hook was yet another rider to suffer a fall in practice.
