Colombian Yonny Hernandez will join the Aspar MotoGP Team next season, it has been confirmed. Today's (September 30th) announcement made no mention as to what bike Hernandez will ride, but he is contracted to Ducati and the team have been rumoured for weeks to be ditching Honda for the Bologna-factory GP14.2s.

Hernandez was initially set to join the Avintia Team alongside Hector Barbera following Scott Redding's signing to the Pramac squad for 2016, but that seat ended up in the hands of the impressive French rider Loris Baz.

The identity of his team-mate is as of yet unknown. However, Eugene Laverty is contracted to the team for 2016 making the Northern Irishman's renewal a formality. This does point to Nicky Hayden's exit from Grand Prix racing, as his options in the World Championship dwindle with each new signing.

“I am very excited to be joining the Aspar Team, we have been trying to work together for a few seasons now but never reached an agreement, but we finally we are together”, stated Hernandez. “I am really happy to form part of the Aspar Team, and my objective is to work hard and give everything to achieve the best possible results for the team next season.

“I know the Aspar Team is a very professional outfit and I am sure that we can reach a high level next season. This is a winning team, as they have shown over many years, and I am hopeful we can adapt quickly to the changes for 2016 and benefit from them. It will be a new challenge, with all of the riders starting from scratch with the new electronics and tyres.”
