Defending Moto2 World Champion Tito Rabat claimed his second win of 2015 after a thrilling battle throughout the race with Alex Rins.
The race initially saw Rins take the lead from pole-sitter Rabat and the local hero established a solid advantage out front until the red flags were thrown as a result of a crash between Aegerter and Simeon with the former requiring medical attention trackside.
At the restart of the shortened 14-lap race, Rins took to the front once more but this time was unable to pull away and a race-long battle with Rabat ensued. The defending champion then made his move at almost half-distance and managed to hold off Rins on the final lap to secure only his second win of the season by 0.096s and ensure the championship wouldn't be decided for another race. After the race, it was confirmed Aegerter had transversal process fractures in four vertebrae, broken bones in his right wrist and hand, fractured ribs and a lung contusion.
Sam Lowes finished an impressive third after initially running up front with Rins and Rabat but eventually dropped away from the leading duo and settled for the final step on the podium. Jonas Folger ended the race a lonely fourth with Thomas Luthi claiming sixth after holding off the charging championship leader Johann Zarco.
The result leaves Zarco with a 78 point advantage over Rabat and still 100 available with the four races remaining. However, it is extremely likely the Frenchman will secure the title it's more a matter of when not if.
