Oliveira Wins Amidst Last Lap Drama

Miguel Oliveira clinched victory at Motorland Aragon in one of the most dramatic last laps of the 2015 Moto3 season.

The Spaniard started well and took the lead whilst championship leader Danny Kent settled into his usual calm and casual race approach in fifth. The leading pack consisted of 10 riders with the battle continuing from the first lap until the last lap and the regular changes of position throughout the top 10. However, Jorge Martin could not maintain the leaders pace and with a couple of laps remaining he dropped away from the front leaving just nine battling for the win. There were numerous close encounters with riders narrowly avoiding contact including the two title contenders Kent and Bastianini.

The final lap saw Brad Binder and Oliveira establish a small advantage over Bastianini in third, Navarro fourth and Kent fifth. Bastianini closed the gap and it became a three way fight for the win until two corners from home when he clipped the rear of Binder's bike causing both to fall. The incident was about to cost the young Italian dear as Kent capitalised and looked set to finish third behind Oliveira and Navarro. However, heading into the final corner, Kent lost the rear as he carried slight more speed into the left-hander and crashed out of third place and missed a great opportunity to move nearer to clinching the Moto3 title.

As a result, Oliveira held on for his third win of the season ahead of Navarro and Romano Fenati who claimed an unexpected podium. Kent's teammate Efren Vazquez finished fourth with Phillip Oettl fifth just ahead of Antonelli sixth. Jorge Martin, Alexis Masbou, Hiroki Ono and Andrea Migno completed the top 10.

The race classification means Danny Kent's championship lead remains at 55 points over Enea Bastianini and a further 20 points back to Oliveira in third. There are just four races and 100 points remaining so Kent is still in control of the title battle but will be looking to return to form next time out in Japan.
