Defending Moto2 champion Tito Rabat stormed to pole position for the Moto2 Aragon Grand Prix.

The Spaniard dominated Friday and Saturday practice and set a series of blistering lap times early on in the qualifying session to be on provisional pole by over half a second from the rest of the field. Only late on was Alex Rins able to close to just 0.035 seconds and lline up alongside his fellow Spanish rider on the front row.

Johann Zarco, who could be crowned champion on Sunday if results go his way, gradually climbed up the field throughout the session and eventually claimed the final front row slot alongside his title rivals. Zarco has primarily focussed on his race pace throughout practice and qualifying as he only needs to outscore Rabat and Rins by 7 and 10 points respectively to lift the Moto2 title on Sunday.

British rider Sam Lowes suffered a horrible high speed crash into the final corner but was unhurt and able to recover to the pits. Lowes made it out for a final run and on his last lap improved to a respectable fourth place on the grid. Nakagami equalled his best qualifying of the season in fifth, with Alex Marquez completing the second row.

Axel Pons impressed and was at one point set for a shock front row start until other riders found some time late on which pushed Pons back to the third row behind Folger and Luthi.
