Defending Moto2 World Champion Tito Rabat set a new lap record for Moto2 at the Aragon circuit.
The previous record had stood since Marc Marquez set a 1m53.296s lap in 2011 until Rabat went one tenth quicker in perfect practice conditions for the intermediate class. Takaaki Nakagami ended the day in second place on the combined practice times just 0.135s behind Rabat after improving by more than two seconds from his Free Practice 1 time.
Spaniard Alex Rins, who was disqualified from the last race at Misano, was third overall less than a tenth slower than Nakagami with Simone Corsi in fourth. Sam Lowes dropped to fifth on the combined times after topping the first practice session earlier in the day after struggling to improve in the warmer afternoon conditions. Luis Salom was sixth just ahead of championship leader Johann Zarco. The Frenchman concentrated purely on his race setup as he can be crowned Moto2 Champion on Sunday if results fall in place, as he needs to out-score Rabat by seven points and finish ahead of Rins to seal the title.
Lorenzo Baldassarri could only manage 14th place after an confirming his continuation with current team Forward Racing for 2016. Meanwhile, Friday practice saw the top 17 riders covered by only one second whilst there were crashes for Randy Krummenacher, Xavier Simeon, Federico Fuligni and Sandro Cortese but all escaped unhurt.
