Formula E is expected to officially announce Mexico City to take the currently vacant fifth spot on the provisional Season Two calendar around March 19. A Mexican ePrix has been rumoured since the summer, and it is understood that a deal is now in place; only having to be confirmed by the sport’s CEO Alejandro Agag.
The calendar is still subject to change after the season opener in Beijing was delayed by a week, and talks of a potential Swiss ePrix are still in place for the latter half of the season. Further changes include the removal of Miami. The race’s future was in doubt even last year, as the event organisers struggled to make preparations in time.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will be the first circuit on the Formula E calendar that is not a street course. It will also be the third FIA World Championship that the circuit has secured as Formula One returns in November, and the World Endurance Championship has a race for 2016.
