2010 Moto2 World Champion and 2006 Portuguese Grand Prix race winner Toni Elias will join Forward Racing in place of Claudio Corti for the rest of the 2015 season.
Elias has already raced in the premier class this year when he took the place of the injured Karel Abraham in Indianapolis last month. He retired from that race.
Forward Racing have been in financial dire straights since their team owner's arrest in July, but things seem to be moving in the right direction as they will see out the rest of the season. Beyond that remains bleak, however.
Team owner Giovanni Cuzari stated: “We are delighted to welcome Toni Elias to our team for the rest of the season, five races to go, two of which are in Spain. We are proud to have a former World Champion riding the Yamaha Forward for the remaining five races. Special thanks to Claudio (Corti), who has always been close to Forward Racing, and has stayed with us in the past few races putting himself fully at the team's disposal.”
Elias said: “I can't be happier to back racing in MotoGP. This year I was already on track at Indianapolis but only for one race, but with Forward I get the chance to finish the season. I wish to thank Giovanni and the whole team for this great opportunity. The goal is to work hard and enjoy the ride; the result will come. I am very motivated and enthusiastic.
