Moto2 championship leader Johann Zarco cruised to a sixth win of the season whilst his title rival Alex Rins was black-flagged.
The Frenchman, on course to claim the Moto2 crown in the next round at Aragon, was sat in a comfortable third place early on after starting from pole position but was overtaken by Dominique Aegerter and Alex Rins in the opening lap.
However, on just the second lap Rins attempted to overtake Aegerter for the lead into turn 14 but snatched the brake as the gap closed and took both riders out of the lead. Rins and Aegerter were able to rejoin the race but Aegerter could only finish 24th after pitting a couple of times to repair damage from the crash. Rins suffered more problems whilst a lap down when he was battling with the group of riders for second place and interfered with the other riders. As a result, race direction black-flagged the 19 year old Spaniard from the race.

Zarco benefitted hugely from the incident between Rins and Aegerter to claim back the lead and he was able to control the pace and pull away consistently to a comfortably victory. Zarco's win meant the Frenchman equalled the record for the most successful French GP riders of all time and claimed his 12th consecutive podium of the season.
Tito Rabat battled back from a disappointing start which saw him drop to ninth place to claim a crucial second place to deny Zarco from extending his championship lead by more than eight points. Japan's Takaaki Nakagami secured third place which represented his first podium finish since his top three result at Misano two years ago.
Simone Corsi was unable to claim a dream home podium for the Italian fans as he had to settle for fourth place after trying to clinch the final podium spot from Nakagami. Julian Simon finished fifth with Jonas Folger just behind in sixth. Lorenzo Baldassarri clinched an impressive seventh place result despite suffering with a dislocated right shoulder following his crash in qualifying on Saturday. The Italian had been battling with Sam Lowes but the Brit suffered a tyre delamination nine laps from the end after a broken fairing damaged the tyre causing the retirement on the pit straight.
Zarco is now 93 points clear at the top of the Moto2 championship with just five races remaining and 125 points available. Should Zarco win in Aragon and Rabat fail to finish second, Zarco will secure the Moto2 championship with four races to spare.
