Bastianini Clinches First Moto3 Win

17 year old Enea Bastianini took his first win of his Moto3 career at his home Grand Prix at Misano.

The Italian youngster claimed the race lead on the last lap after a race long battle at the front of the field with Miguel Oliveira and Niccolo Antonelli where Oliveira had led the majority of the race only to be passed by Bastianini into turn 11. The Spaniard finished a close second with Antonelli completing the podium. The race was another classic Moto3 multi-rider battle for the lead initially with 12 riders but eventually came down to just 3 by the last lap.

The win for Bastianini allowed him to close the gap to 55 points to championship leader Danny Kent who had to settle for a disappointing sixth place. The British rider had been sitting comfortably in seventh place in the early stages at the back of the leading group conserving tyres and allowing the front riders to battle for the lead. However, Kent was given a one position drop penalty half way through the race for exceeding the track limits several times. The penalty resulted in Kent having to drop five seconds to the rider behind him to drop the one position and ended his challenge for the race win.

Romano Fenati completed a hat-trick of Italian riders in the top four with a strong fourth place finish after holding the position ahead of a charging Brad Binder. Meanwhile, Kent's Leopard Racing teammate Efren Vazquez crashed out whilst battling for the lead with just nine laps remaining. The Spaniard ran too hot into turn 4 and lost the front-end into the right-hander.

Elsewhere, Jorge Martin and Mahindra teammate Juanfran Guevara came together into the final corner of the last lap. Both riders were running in the points until the collision which left Guevara in the gravel whilst Martin claimed the last point for 15th place.
