Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen has been given a drive through penalty for leaving the pits in an unsafe manor at the Italian Grand Prix.
The Dutchman didn’t make it onto the circuit in time to set a qualifying time after an engine change meant he could only perform an outlap. In the rush to get the car on the circuit the team hadn’t attached the engine cover correctly and flew off after the first chicane littering the track with carbon fibre.
With Verstappen already starting at the back of the grid, not setting a time and having an engine penalty, the stewards decided they would give him a drive through penalty which must be taken in the first three laps of the race.
