Mercedes face tyre pressure investigation

Lewis Hamilton was unstoppable on his way to victory at the Italian Grand Prix. His team mate Nico Rosberg retired from the race with an engine issue in the final stages of the race on his hunt for 2nd place.
However, both cars now face investigation from the stewards for, on the grid, having tyre pressures under the minimum allowed. Pirelli raised the minimum tyre pressures on safety grounds after two tyre failures during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
Towards the end of the race, despite having almost a pit stop in hand over second-placed man Sebastian Vettel, Hamilton was told on the team radio to create a gap. He was also told not to question the matter.
Immediately after the race, Toto Wolff refused to give any information on the subject, and Niki Lauda seemed completely unware of the situation.
It could be that Mercedes were trying to create as much a gap as possible to cover a potential time penalty. Hamilton’s winning margin was 25.048 seconds.
