In what everyone thought was a surprise move in starting the 2016 two weeks later than usual in Melbourne, Red Bull have come out against the plan which will see no F1 running in December, January or February.
In a bid to make the season more compact, even with more races during the 2016 season, thanks to a new race in Azerbaijan, and to reduce the current four week summer break, which this year was succeeded by a three week gap after losing the German Grand Prix.
Winter testing, which usually starts on February 1st will be moved back to March 1st for next year, giving the teams a whole month longer development time. There will also be just two tests, with the usual opener in Jerez dropped in favour of just two tests in Barcelona.
Red Bull have concerns that it is a long time without any F1 news, considering there are now tests or current promotional events, but it was a decision they were overruled.
The change in the rules essentially means more time for teams if they wish to change engine supplier (Red Bull or Lotus), along with the new entrant Haas.
