Sensational Navarro Steals Silverstone Pole

Jorge Navarro took a sensational pole position for the British GP with a new pole position record lap of 2m12.440s.

The session was all about which riders could benefit the most from slipstreams down the four main straights at Silverstone. At the end of the 40 minutes qualifying session, Jorge Navarro took advantage of a tow from Karel Hanika to take pole position with the Czech rider sealing second place and the only other rider in the 2m12's. The two riders were separated by half a second on the stopwatch.

Championship leader and British fans favourite Danny Kent completed the front row after initially looking like claiming pole position but for the laps of Navarro and Hanika. The Brit was unable to take advantage of a tow on his final lap and therefore not able to improve his time after the chequered flag flew. Kent's Leopard Racing teammate Efren Vazquez lines up fourth just ahead of Isaac Vinales, Alexis Masbou, Enea Bastianini, Romano Fenati, Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder completing the top ten.

Final practice pace-setter Jorge Martin had to settle for a disappointing 16th and was unable to match his time from the morningn session. Meanwhile, Brno winner Niccolo Antonelli could only manage 18th place almost two seconds away from Navarro's pole time. John McPhee was able to claim a top 15 start with 12th place on the grid for tomorrow's race with fellow Brits Taz Taylor and Luke Hedger qualifying 35th and 36th respectively.

The race tomorrow could see a chance of rain especially with the Moto3 race being last on the schedule as usual for the British GP weekend to accommodate for European broadcasters. Additionally, the race is likely to come down to the last lap if a group of riders are battling for the win and podium as the slipstreams could prove decisive on the final result.
