Moto2 rookie Alex Rins beat the pole position record in final practice ahead of Qualifying for the British Grand Prix with a lap time of 2m06.932s.

The Spaniard had earlier beaten the pole record set by Takaaki Nakagami in 2013 with just over 15 minutes of the session remaining but on his final lap of the session lowered it further. Rins was the only rider to set a time in the 2m06's with fellow Moto2 rookie Alex Marquez finishing second but only 0.092s slower.
Defending champion Tito Rabat ended the session third ahead of current championship leader Johann Zarco, both of whom were separated by just 0.008s but were three tenths adrift of the leading duo. Friday pacesetter and home favourite Sam Lowes managed to finish fifth also on a 2m07.389 and four tenths behind Rins. Completing the top ten in a closely bunched field were Luthi in sixth followed by Simon, Nakagami, Krummenacher and Cortese, all of whom were within a three tenths whilst 3rd to 17th were covered by just one second.
The session saw an early crash at Stowe for the other British rider in the Moto2 field Bradley Ray on his out lap. The Brit escaped unharmed but the bike was sufficiently damaged to allow just one flying lap at the end finishing in 30th position. There were also crashed for Robin Mulhauser and Federico Caricasulo with the latter replacing Franco Morbidelli this weekend as the Italian suffered a broken leg in a Motocross accident last week.
