Navarro leads the way at Silverstone

Jorge Navarro finished the first Moto3 practice on top at Silverstone with a lap time of 2m15.568s.

The Spaniard rose to the top of the timesheets with just over ten minutes remaining of the session and his rivals were unable to beat his time. Only two other riders were able to lap into the 2m15's, but second practice should see times significantly improve with warmer track and ambient temperatures expected.

Just three minutes into the session, home favourite and championship leader Danny Kent suffered an unfortunate start to his weekend with a mechanical problem forcing him to pull off at Copse and miss the rest of the session. Meanwhile, Brad Binder led the way initially with track temperatures relatively low and lap times were some five seconds away from the pole position record.

Miguel Oliveira then took over at the top mid way through the session and was the first rider into the 2m16's, closely followed by Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder. Whilst a few riders, including Brno winner Niccolo Antonelli, had their times deleted for exceeding track limits at Club and Woodcote.

With ten minutes remaining, Navarro broke into the 2m15's comfortably ahead of Efren Vazquez and would remain out front once the chequered flag fell. The Spaniard improved his time further at the end of the session and finished two tenths clear of South Africa's Brad Binder. Isaac Vinales, who permanently replaced Niklas Ajo for the remainder of the season, lapped an impressive third ahead of Oliveira, Bastianini and Kornfeil. Completing the top 10 were Fenati, Migno, Antonelli and Vazquez.

Other British riders McPhee, Taylor and Hedger finished the session 28th, 33rd and 35th respectively.
