Coletti: It's Completely Different to Anything We've Driven

Monegasque racer Stefano Coletti believes that the all-electric Spark Renault Formula E car is ‘completely different to anything’ he’s previously driven.
The 26-year-old, who has stared in the GP2 series since 2009, drove the Team Aguri car in the final day of testing at Donington Park and managed to get some good running in.
“We were late because I got back from the states last night” said Coletti, “I arrived here at midnight so I couldn’t do a seat so I had to do it this morning.
“We rushed and did what we could, so we did the seat fit and managed to do a few laps, unfortunately now it’s raining so I don’t know what we’re gonna do.
“It’s a car that takes a while to get used to; it’s completely different to anything we’ve been driving since now.
“It’s just getting used to everything, getting used to not having any noise in the car, and the speed; so I think we’re getting better.”
Good energy saving skills are essential for a successful Formula E driver and Coletti feels may take a while to get used to this in an electric car.
“It’s hard because it’s a compromise between lifting early and lifting too early and not braking early enough.
“It’s a question of timing and knowing where to do it. It’s a bit like in IndyCar we do it for fuel, because we need to save fuel in the races but here it’s even more important because you need to save energy and also not use too much energy.
“It’s tricky and it’s something that’s gonna take a while to learn.”
Team Aguri are yet to announce their 2015/16 driver lineup and fielded a total of five drivers over the course of the tests. When asked whether he is close to signing a race contract, Coletti answered ‘no idea, I hope so’.
