Vergne has 'good chance' of getting Haas F1 seat

Jean-Eric Vergne has talked up his chances of getting a spot on the F1 grid next year, despite signing with DS Virgin Racing in Formula E.

He is one of three drivers which are said to be on the shortlist for the team including German Le Mans winner Nico Hulkeberg and fellow Ferrari driver Esteban Gutierrez. Vergne was dropped by Red Bull at the end of last season when he was overlooked to replace Mark Webber – with Daniel Ricciardo getting the drive, and then again to Daniil Kvyat when Sebastian Vettel left to go to Ferrari.

Vergne ended up in Formula E at the end of last season and was instantly one of the quickest drivers in the field for Andretti. He moves to DS Virgin Racing for the second season replacing the ‘ill’ Jaime Alguersuari.

He said to motorsport.com, “Let’s say there is a rather good chance for me to end up with Haas. Then, as far as Formula E is concerned, that’s too early to talk about it.

“If F1 comes, there will be two clashes. It’s way too early to say how that will go. I hope to have that kind of problem to sort out, that would be a good one to have!

“But today, I’m focused on Formula E, and very much as well on my work with Ferrari, which of course pays off to land in the Haas team.”
