Pole position for Zarco at CzechGP

Championship leader set a new pole position record time at Brno and with it starts the Czech GP ahead of title rivals Tito Rabat and Alex Rins on the front row.

Zarco, on course to become the first French intermediate class champion since Olivier Jacque in 2000, set three consecutive laps each quicker than the previous in the opening 10 minutes of the session to secure pole position in a time of 2m01.614. Defending champion Tito Rabat had to settle for second and couldn't improve his time as track temperatures rose throughout the session to match yesterday's heat.
Alex Rins, after an earlier off through the gravel at turn 1, composed himself to grab third place at the end and push Sandro Cortese off the front row. Luthi, Aegerter, Marquez, Morbidelli, Pons and Folger completed the top 10.
Elsewhere, it was a disastrous session for Sam Lowes who was late into qualifying due to front end issues his team were fixing and only emerged from the garage 13 minutes into the session. Then as Lowes started his final run his rear suspension collapsed through turns 3 and 4 and was lucky to escape a crash and managed to pull off the side of the track. As a result the Brit will start tomorrow's race a lowly 13th but will be looking for a better Sunday.
There were other crashes for Simone Corsi, Julian Simon and Louis Rossi all separate incidents at turn 13 but escaped without injuries.
Moto2 Warm-Up commences at 08:10 tomorrow with the race starting at 11:20 (UK times). Full live commentary available through our twitter @ILMMotoGP.
