East Coast Construction BMW rider Lee Johnston took victory in the opening race of the Saturday of the 2015 Ulster Grand Prix. The local man stole victory from the grasp of Peter Hickman on the last lap after tactical use of slower riders saw the BMW rider slip past Hickman and lead him across the line by just 0.090s.
Hickman was able to get the hole shot at the start and stayed ahead until the final lap. This is the Briggs BMW rider's second podium of the meeting after taking 3rd Thursday's Superbike race.
Another rider caught out by the backmarkers was on the last lap was Michael Dunlop on the MD Racing BMW. Just a second behind Hickman and Johnston in the closing stages, traffic hindered his progress and he subsequently dropped back six-seconds to the leading pair.
10-seconds behind Michael was brother William, who is Tyco BMW's only rider this weekend after Guy Martin suffered broken bones in a crash at Ireland's on Thursday. Keith Amor completed the top five after starting the race from pole position.
