GP2 & GP3 to support Six Hours of Bahrain event

The organisers of the GP2 and GP3 Series have announced that the two championships will support the WEC Six Hours of Bahrain event in November. It will be the first time the series have supported the World Endurance Championship.

The event takes place between the 19th and 21st November, meaning the teams will have a double-header season finale, as the final round of the championship takes place in Abu Dhabi a week later.

CEO of the GP2 and GP3 Series Bruno Michel said, "I am pleased to confirm that we have added Sakhir to our 2015 GP2 and GP3 Calendar in November. Ever since the announcement of the cancellation of the German event, we have been working hard to try and add a round for our Series.

“It was important that we could keep the costs down for the teams, but also to find a venue that was an added value for the drivers. Bahrain International Circuit was the best option: not only is it a Formula One track, but it makes perfect sense to have it back-to-back with the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.”

Stoffel Vandoorne is currently dominating the GP2 Series whereas Luca Ghiotto is leading the GP3 Championship. Both series return after the summer break in Spa, supporting the F1 Belgian Grand Prix.
