Northern Ireland's Michael Laverty will replace Marco Melandri at the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini for this weekend's German Grand Prix. The former PBM rider and current Tyco BMW rider in the British Superbike Championship has been testing with the team this year, with the Italian squad praising his technical feedback.

Questions surrounding Melandri's future at the team have been swirling for a while, with them coming to a head during the Catalan Grand Prix weekend where a last minute deal to retain the Italian was put in place. His poor performances and lack of ability on the bike this year have led to Aprilia dropping the former 250cc world champion and 2005 premier class runner up.

Laverty is only contracted to the team for the German Grand Prix and it remains to be seen as to whether he will continue for the rest of the season.
