Danny Kent made his intentions for the weekend clear after topping the time sheets in the opening session of the weekend, and cemented that position in the second free practice of the day. The Leopard Racing Honda rider took to the top of the timing screens early in the session with a 1:42.9 before taking to the pits. There he remained until the final 10-minutes when he returned to the track on a fresh medium front and soft rear slick. His first lap on new tyres saw him smash the competition, crossing the line with a 1:42.1. He then bettered that on his next tour and posted the fastest ever lap of the TT Circuit Assen – 1:41.860.
Romano Fenati was Kent's closest challenger, if close is the right word. The Italian set a best time of 1:42.137, but it is worth noting that the SKY VR46 KTM rider did set that time on the medium rear Dunlop tyre.
Once again both EG 0,0 Honda riders impressed as they continue their education of the Assen circuit. Jorge Navarro was a fine 3rd and Fabio Quartararo 3-tenths back in 4th.
Karel Hanika had a much better session this afternoon. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was the early session leader and ended up 5th at the chequered flag with a 1:42.553. The Czech rider crashed on his final lap at the end of the session but was uninjured. Team-mate's Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder were 10th and 27th respectively.
Niccolo Antonelli was also a late crasher having just set the fastest time in the final few minutes of FP2 and dropped to 6th. Livio Loi was another late faller and was 15th.
John McPhee enjoyed a decent morning after finishing FP1 8th and continued that form in the second session, finishing 8th once again. His season has flat-lined since Austin and the Scotsman will be desperate to get a top 10 finish under his belt come Saturday.
Wild card riders Kevin Hanus and Jarel Boerboom ended up 35th and 36th respectively. The latter of the two was eager to get out on track first at the start of the session but stalled his bike as a result of sitting at the end of pit lane for too long.
