Fernando Alonso has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen lost control of his Ferrari on the first lap of the Austrian Grand Prix unaided, which saw the end of the pairs race.
On the exit of turn two Raikkonen lost control of his Ferrari, collecting Alonso’s McLaren in the process which saw him climb over the top of the Ferrari. The pair walked away uninjured, but it could have been a whole lot worse, with the McLaren just centimetres from Raikkonen’s head.
The crash caused concern for fellow McLaren driver Jenson Button who took to the radio to ask if his team mate was alright following the incident.
It isn’t the first time Raikkonen has lost control of his car in traction zones, having done the same in Canada both 2015 and last year, as well as in testing.
