Navarro Tops FP1

Jorge Navarro led the away after FP1 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Honda team. The home rider was the only one of the 34-strong field to post a 1:51s lap with a 1:51.988. The Spaniard also put in the laps, circulating the track 17 times.

Leopard Racing Honda's Danny Kent was 2nd quickest with a 1:52.094 and was the only other rider close to Navarro. He comes into this round with a 44-point lead in the standings and looks in good form, at this early stage at least, to extend that. Team-mate Efren Vazquez completed the top three in a crucial weekend for the Spaniard as he looks to get his championship challenge back on track coming off the back of two non-scorers.

Isaac Vinales was 4th fastest after a reasonably good morning for the Factory Husqvarna team. Maria Herrera was 2nd quickest for a time after she used her team-mates tow to maximum effect of the pit straight. She eventually dropped to 15th by session's end.

Niccolo Antonelli crashed out of this race last year and will be wanting to avoid a repeat performance this Sunday. The Gresini Honda rider was a decent 5th, with Brad Binder, Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia, Livio Loi and Miguel Oliveira completing the top ten.

Racing Team Germany rider John McPhee did some testing following the Italian GP and found some set-up improvements which seemed to have done something as the Scotsman was a decent 11th in the morning session.

Enea Bastianini didn't get his weekend off to the most ideal of starts as he crashed five-minutes into the session. The Gresini rider ran wide at turn twelve and lost grip on the damp artificial grass. He was forced to sit out the rest of the session.
