Cortese Fastest In Catalunya FP2

Sandro Cortese ended the second free practice session ahead of the 2015 Catalan Grand Prix fastest for the Dynavolt Intact GP team. The German set a fastest lap of 1:47.127 late in the session and subsequently set a string of times very close to that mark.

Johann Zarco was also consistently quick in 2nd, but each time he tried to go fast he lost time in the final sector. The championship leader will have to settle for 2nd but heads into tomorrow's sessions as the fastest man with his time from the morning unbeaten.

Alex Rins comes into this weekend having recently undergone surgery for arm pump. The Paginas Amarillas rider seems to be suffering no ill-effects however as he was 3rd quickest on his first visit to this circuit as a Moto2 rider. Rins posted a best time of 1:47.266, so not that far off the fastest man. Team-mate Luis Salom was 7th quickest.

Sam Lowes had another crash this afternoon having already suffered one at turn five in FP1. The Speed Up rider ran too hot into turn ten and dropped the bike into the gravel. He and the bike escaped any major damage, and he rejoined in the final five-minutes to nearly steal top spot from Cortese. The Briton ends the day 4th fastest on a 1:47.281. Tom Luthi completed the top five.

Tito Rabat was 6th quickest on the Marc VDS Kalex and team-mate Alex Marquez 14th. Marquez dominated this race in the Moto3 class last year and will be hoping to try and get his best Moto2 result at the circuit on Sunday.

Jonas Folger completed the top ten whilst Azlan Shah, having just come off the back of scoring his first ever World Championship points was in fine form in 11th.
