The FIA have announced they are looking for a new team to enter the sport in either 2016 or 2017.
In a statement on the
FIA website, the association has confirmed a new process for teams to enter the sport has begun, but come with a number of conditions to ensure their suitability and sustainability.
The entries will be judged under the following criteria:
a) the technical ability and resources of the team
b) the ability of the team to raise and maintain sufficient funding to allow participation in the Championship at a competitive level
c) the team’s experience and human resources
d) the FIA’s assessment of the value that the candidate may bring to the Championship as a whole.
Those who intend to apply must lodge an expression of interest with the FIA by June 30th, with full applications entered by September 1st. A decision will be made on September 30th.
If there isn’t a viable candidate, then no entry will be chosen.
Next season already sees the entry of Gene Haas into Formula One, although he deferred his entry by a year to give them time to build their team, both in the USA and Europe. A new team could see the number of cars on the grid rise from 20 this year to 24 in either 2016 or 2017.
