A chaotic and incident strewn Saturday afternoon in Pau saw yet another win for Jake Dennis, who led once again from lights to flag, and was followed across the line by Charles Leclerc and Antonio Giovinazzi respectively. Another consecutive podium finish for Giovinazzi saw him keep his position at the top of the championship leaderboard, but only by a margin of five points with another strong performance from closest rival Leclerc in his rookie season. There was an early safety car caused by Matt Solomon, allowing Maximilian Gunther in second to keep Leclerc behind him while Dennis built up a comfortable lead. There was a further safety car period on lap 14 because of Julio Moreno’s parked Three Bond with T Sport car and then another just after this second restart following a collision between Alessio Lorandi and Michele Berretta. It was this second restart which gave Leclerc the chance to strike to tackle second place from Gunther, who then also surrendered third place to Giovinazzi after colliding with the tyre barriers. The result of this was a narrowed track and therefore a pile-up of several cars, leading to the race being red flagged so that they could be recovered. The race was restarted with just a few minutes to spare before the 35 minute time limit elapsed, but nothing could be done to stop Dennis from powering to his second win. 1.
