Trolls...

Recently I was the victim of "trolls". For those who don't know, "Trolls" live on the Internet and, in real life, still with their parents at the age of forty. I joke. These trolls called me unpatriotic and racist because I don't support Lewis Hamilton. I write about motorsport; to nail my colours to the mast would invite unquestioned criticism from peers and readers. It would be wholly unprofessional for me to favour a team or driver over others. Yes, I’m British and I would be a bit weird if I didn't enjoy seeing British teams and drivers do well. The issue here is to remain impartial for you guys reading my stuff. Whilst I don't consider myself to be a journalist yet, I can never do so if I show favouritism to one driver over another. Likewise, to omit criticism of one driver is bad journalism. A balanced view makes for greater insight. I'm here to present facts not opinion. When I do, I must present all sides. My passion is the sport, not teams or drivers. I appreciate what they do and the entertainment that they provide but above all else it's the spectacle I admire the most. Finally, to call me racist because I don't favour a driver who happens to be from an ethnic minority says a great deal about your character. You simply cannot make those assumptions about me without even knowing me. My attitude towards people is based on personality, not nationality or skin colour. My approach to people is to give everyone parity - the fact that I even have to say this upsets me. Moral of the story, never EVER bite. The trolls love to fish.
